I arrived here at your hospital in severe pain. I've had Crohn's Disease for 50 years and I also have a hernia. Tests showed a bowel blockage, which was very close to the hernia. Derick was my nurse. I've been in many hospitals in many states that I've lived in because of the bowel blockage. I was much younger in those days, but I was so scared of this pain I have been experiencing for the past 17 hours.
I can't even find the words to tell you how compassionate, calm and tender Derick had been to me all evening. He's been so attentive. I do not hesitate to say Derick has been the very best nurse I've ever had! Of course, I had to be admitted and he saw me through all the IVs, the NG tube, and administration of medicine. He listened attentively to all I had to say; he never rushed me or made me feel he had anything else to do that was more important. As a senior citizen, that meant the world to me. Even through my tears, he showed me the utmost respect. He is truly an angel doing God's work. I can't even imagine ever having another nurse that can come close to what it meant to me to have him take care of me.
In this time of people being so stressed over this virus and all the changes going on in our world, you should be very proud of Derick and strive to have more like him on your staff (although I'd bet people like him are hard to find in today's world.)
