Derrick was nominated by a patient's daughter for going above and beyond to assist her mother. The patient was admitted to the emergency department feeling very ill and Derrick gave her extra blankets to make her comfortable and went to the cafeteria to bring her soup. The patient was extremely weak, and Derrick helped to feed her. The patient's family was amazed that despite his busy workload, he took the time to care for their mother. When they thanked him, Derrick humbly responded, "I am an RN. I took an oath to care for others before I earned this title!"
