Dervishe Kansu, BSN, RN
Dervishe Kansu, BSN, RN, of the Intensive Care Unit, was recognized as this month’s DAISY Award Honoree for the extraordinary compassion, encouragement, and support she provides to patients and their loved ones during some of their most difficult moments.
One family member described Dervishe as a nurse who consistently treated both the patient and family with dignity and respect while creating a compassionate, healing environment. The family particularly remembered the time she took to communicate with them, patiently answering questions and ensuring they understood what was happening throughout their loved one’s care. During an especially difficult moment, her genuine empathy and kindness comforted the family. They shared that her care went beyond professionalism, reflecting the humanity and compassion that make an exceptional nurse.
A second family member nominated Dervishe after witnessing the positive impact she had on their loved one during an unexpected setback that required intensive care. Throughout a challenging day, she remained upbeat and encouraging, motivating the patient to participate in recovery activities, maintain nutrition, and continue working toward important goals. The family noted the significant progress their loved one made with Dervishe’s support and credited her encouragement with making a difficult experience feel much more manageable.
