My 87-year-old mother was brought by ambulance to Summerville ER this past Tuesday, in the early morning after she woke with a very severe instance of dizziness. She was incapacitated to the point where she could not get out of bed and had to activate her emergency call button. Because University Main was on diversion, she was brought to Summerville.
Desirè met the ambulance paramedics with a smile and a calm demeanor and took over mother's care. She was friendly and unrushed but maintained a professional take-care-of-business attitude. Her demeanor immediately set my frightened mother at ease. Desirè was compassionate yet competent in everything she did.
My mother has fragile veins that blow for everyone who attempts to start an IV, yet Desirè slid in the needle on the very first attempt. She gave frequent updates about what was happening and subsequent treatment plans as she treated her dehydration and vertigo and gave that information in a language that my mother could understand.
Desirè exudes the characteristics of an excellent nurse; those characteristics that make me, a retired nurse, proud to call nursing my profession.
Thank you, Desirè, and thank you, University Hospital Summerville ER. Great job!!

Thank you, Desirè, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
