Being in the hospital can be very nerve-racking. I had never been through these medical issues before. I had a lot of uncertainty about the process and what to expect. Desiree kept me up to speed on all my tests and set proper expectations for timing, which really set me at ease. She made me feel extremely comfortable, like I was talking to a friend the entire time. Nothing I asked or requested felt like a burden or inconvenience. It never felt like she was “just doing her job.” She made me feel like she genuinely cared about me. It has been a long time since I have encountered another person who made me feel comfortable in that way. Doctors’ offices and nurses nowadays make patients feel like “just another number.” Desiree should be recognized for her amazing bedside manner and her genuine empathy for her patients and co-workers. There was another nurse who was having a hard time while I was a patient. I personally witnessed Desiree comfort her co-worker and assist her with completing her tasks. She told the other nurse to walk away and take some time to compose herself. Banner and all their patients are very lucky to have someone like her.
