Desiree is a nursery charge nurse and was assisting W with an infant discharge. She was also in the role of secretary, as the nursery did not have one that day. The mom of the baby being discharged had moved here from Honduras the previous month. She did not speak English, did not know her address as she was living with her brother, and did not know her phone number. Desiree reached out to Baby Care for a car seat as mom did not have one, and Baby Care wanted her to go to their facility to get it.

Desiree knew Mom couldn’t do that as the social work had arranged a taxi to take Mom home. The discharge was complete and the taxi was on its way to the hospital and mom did not have an infant car seat. Desiree called her husband to purchase a car seat. He went to Sam’s Club, bought one, and brought it to the nursery. Meanwhile, the taxi had come and gone. Desiree called the social worker in the ER and they coordinated another taxi to come. Desiree worked with J on MBU, who stayed with Mom and the baby until the taxi came. Desiree worked tirelessly to ensure mom and baby got safely home and did not think twice about purchasing a car seat for this mom in need.
