They immediately rushed me to the room, stripped me naked and placed a catheter in my private area - pain I can’t even describe. I couldn’t help crying and begged for my mother to be called. So much going on, my anxiety was through the roof. I was then transferred to a room and received all my treatments. Although I was saved - I was left angry and was stripped of my pride. I felt very alone and did not want to continue further! It felt too much. But here comes Nurse Desiree Valdez with a spirit of positivity and light. We immediately bonded, and kindness was unrivaled - she closed the room door and slid the curtains for privacy. She carried a tub with all the cleaning essentials and began to care for me. As a 49year old man this was very tough to let go, but I did. She was SOOO prepared that the cleaning went by quickly but gently. She made sure my catheter was in tack and helped clean the area to prevent infections. I felt safe. She prepared my bed, and I slept through the night. The following day I had an important meeting - a settlement for a court case. I spoke to Nurse Desiree early on, and we created a plan. She secured 30min to prepare me and another 30min to stand by the door and keep my meeting private. I wish I could show you the handsome image she created of me via Zoom call. Who does this?
