Destiny Krueger, RN
I’d like to recognize Destiny Krueger for her exceptional care during the delivery of my stillborn daughter and throughout our hospital stay.
Upon arrival to the OB floor, my husband and I were unsure what the outcome would be since I hadn’t felt my baby move. Destiny was the nurse who was assigned to our room. She came in, checked for her heartbeat two different ways, and then went to get the Doctor after not being able to find it.
Once it had been confirmed that our daughter had passed and we’d need to begin the induction process to deliver our baby, Destiny remained calm, patient, and showed us so much compassion. Once we had made a few phone calls and felt ready, she started the Pitocin drip, checking in with us frequently to ensure we were comfortable and had what we needed.
As the induction progressed, I began bleeding, and my mom left the room to get Destiny. She came to the room quickly and checked me, staying calm and ensuring me that everything was okay. Her shift was ending, but she stayed anyway. There was an emergent situation with another patient, and without hesitation Destiny said that she would stay with me rather than going with them, providing consistency and comfort during such a difficult and scary time.
Shortly after that, my situation became emergent due to heavy bleeding. I was quickly taken to the OR for an emergency C-section. Destiny stayed with us.
Once our daughter was delivered, Destiny brought her to us and laid her down by my head. She continued to hold her between my husband and me, while taking our first family photos for us. She was so kind and compassionate and told us how beautiful our daughter was.
Once surgery was complete, Destiny again stayed with us, walking back to our room with my husband and our baby. She handed our baby to my husband to hold and took their first photos together. Destiny hugged us, cried with us, comforted us, and continually reminded us how beautiful our daughter was.
Despite having worked a full shift and staying late, Destiny continued to show care and compassion towards us. During our stay, she was assigned to our room again and continued with the same care she had shown us earlier that week.
Destiny goes above and beyond what is expected of a nurse and is more than deserving of the DAISY Award.
