When I came into the ICU I was very ill and scared. I have a number of medical and mental health issues and I was very skeptical about being there. I was getting discouraged, and then the shift changed and I met Detra.
Just before the shift changed and Detra started, I took a very nasty fall, and I was scared and in a panic. Detra came in and took control; she got me calmed down and cleaned up and back in bed feeling secure. Never once did she frown or seem frustrated, she just wanted to make sure I was okay and assure me I was in the best care. Detra not only went over and beyond just helping me medically, but she showed me love and compassion and made me feel like a human being no matter my condition. Detra made sure I was clean and my room was clean. She made sure I understood what was going on with my care. Detra’s actions restored my faith in my care and I decided to stay until discharged out. I was sure to look for her each day on her shift. She’s welcome to my family dinner table any day. I am forever grateful.

Thank you, Detra, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
