Deva has been the nurse champion for implementing a dementia care program in the Community Living Center. She has had creative ideas, shown compassion for our veterans and families, and gone out of her way to individually train all RNs, LPNs, and CNAs on the unit. She has a passion for dementia care and it is obvious. For one particular resident, she has identified the need to speak Italian (his native language) because his dementia has taken much of his English. She is teaching the staff simple greetings and instructions they can use. This resident has become more active, more verbal, and has a better quality of life due to her interventions. She is a leader in dementia care.
