Her leadership and infection control expertise allowed for the continued delivery of safe care at the Hawaii military treatment facilities for thousands of Navy, Army, and Air Force beneficiaries.
RN Bonnell is the infection control nurse for the Naval Health Clinic Hawaii Command and Branch Clinics. She has been instrumental in the safe delivery of medical and dental care as a subject matter expert in her field. Not only does she ensure safe patient care from the expected infectious threats in a healthcare setting, but she also played a role in keeping patients and staff safe during the COVID-19 pandemic by introducing new sanitizing technology, PPE equipment, and supplies. She was a valuable team expert when our base was impacted by an underground fuel contamination leak into the water supply significantly affecting patient care operations at the main clinic. She quickly enacted a mitigation plan allowing for continued safe patient care delivery in both the medical and dental settings between the various locations, ensuring high-level disinfection, sterilization, and infection control processes were maintained so that patients could receive their needed care. As a highly respected expert in her field, RN Bonnell was tasked to be the infection control lead for the entire Hawaii military market during a critical staffing gap. Her leadership and infection control expertise allowed for the continued delivery of safe care at the Hawaii military treatment facilities for thousands of Navy, Army, and Air Force beneficiaries. RN Bonnell not only leads at the top, but she also spends much of her time at the deck plate performing small group education and teachings for the Corpsman in infection control and proper high-level disinfection techniques and equipment use. She travels to all the medical and dental clinics and is a highly respected team member that everyone is happy to see when she arrives. She was instrumental in the joint commission survey resulting in continued Naval health clinic Hawaii accreditation with no deficiencies/findings, which the Surveyor highly praised. RN Bonnell is well known for her tireless dedication to patient care and the safety of our staff and community. She is compassionate and kind on a personal level to patients, staff, and anyone needing assistance. She volunteers time to her community and is well known throughout the clinics for making hand-made Hawaiian flower leis on her own time that she gives away to staff on special occasions, or to just brighten someone’s day. RN Bonnell is truly a gem of a person and embodies the gold standard of caring, compassion, resilience, and knowledge that all nurses should be measured against.
