Diana exemplifies what it means to be a caring, compassionate nurse and manager.
Diana Dixie is a true Nurse Leader. She works hard every day she is here and every day she is at home to create standards for an exceptional unit. Diana models nursing care at the highest level. She is extremely knowledgeable and insists on high standards for all of us as well. She actively encourages us to continue our education. During nursing rounds, she spends time teaching and coaching, in addition to overseeing medical details. Diana is right at the bedside during codes, hanging drips, or assisting. At all times, she assists each nurse to perform to their highest potential. Even when she is wearing her business clothes, Diana never hesitates to put on gloves and assist a patient with personal care, and she does so with a smile.
No detail is too big or too small for Diana. She knows what is happening with all the complex medical cases. She takes great pride in having a clean and tidy unit, often picking up in patient rooms or in the hallway. Having Diana on the unit is like having a combination of Guest Relations, a Clinical Nurse Educator, a SWAT nurse, a charge nurse, an administrator, and a bedside nurse. She is an amazing resource.
As a manager, Diana somehow inspires a very positive culture in the unit. She talks about it. She models it. Nurses actively support each other. Nurses, charge, and bedside, are respectful and helpful to each other. When times are tough, the unit bands together to work through it. Diana calls from home to check on us during her days off. One weekend we were having an especially hard time. Diana took time out of her day off to bring us pizza and tell us that she knew what a struggle it was.
She works hard enough for 3 people and cares deeply about all the staff, patients, and families on 4 North. It is evident in the culture of 4 North that Diana is a nurse leader of the highest quality.

On a daily basis, Diana can be found in the halls of 4 North answering call lights, transferring patients to and from the commode, or just assisting as needed on the ever-busy cardiac unit. She makes it a point to ask each of her staff members daily if they need anything, or if there is anything that she can do to help them out. Recently, on a particularly stressful and busy day on the unit, Diana took each staff member's coffee order. Diana then went and purchased each drink and passed them out to staff personally. That simple but personal gesture made everyone's day a little better.
Diana is always a team player. Although she is a manager, she does not ever shy away from bedside care. On Friday staffing was down, we had multiple call-ins and an RN was needed to float to another unit. The nurses on 4 North were projected to have a patient load of 7 per RN. Diana stayed from 3 pm - 7 pm and took a 5 patient assignment on the floor. During that timeframe, she was more than a team player, and she even took an admission from the ER so that another floor nurse would not have to.
She is not afraid to utilize her vast knowledge and help staff. During a recent code, Diana stepped in and was rotating doing compressions with the other staff members, during another code she was the medication RN. Just this week, Diana sat at a comfort care patient's bedside and kept him company so that he would not have to pass away alone. Diana exemplifies what it means to be a caring, compassionate nurse and manager.
