Diana noticed that a patient was experiencing profound emotional distress following the recent loss of her husband from a motor vehicle accident, which involved the whole family. Given her symptoms of depression and reduced appetite, it was imperative for this patient to receive a psych consult before discharge. A social worker did an assessment and got consent to help the patient and one of her sons, who also was having negative thoughts. The necessary referrals were provided. Thanks to Diana’s concerns, the family received the attention they needed.
