Diana Grasser works in the pediatric sedation unit as a VA-nurse. Diana goes above and beyond for every patient that she interacts with. Diana remembers everyone’s names, their stories, the intricacies of how they like their IVs placed, etc. Diana cares about the overall wellbeing of every patient. As a VA RN in Comer, she gets to know almost every patient that comes through the doors here. There was a patient who was struggling for multiple days to get the imaging he needed. Diana and I were called to help place a PIV in this patient for his imaging. The patient also needed to drink a large amount of oral contrast. The patient required immense coaching to drink the contrast. Diana stayed at his side and coached him through drinking it. She then spoke with multiple disciplines to coordinate his care and then personally took him to CT after her shift hours were completed. Diana was not asked to do any of this. It was only asked of her that she place the PIV. But, she knew that without encouragement, the patient would not complete the scan. She stayed, past her shift, to ensure his scan was completed and that he felt safe. This is truly just one example of how Diana goes above and beyond. There are countless examples that our unit could give you, if asked. Diana truly deserves to be recognized!
