Diana M Peck, RN
Diana made a difference in small, subtle ways that might not seem significant at first, but together they had an enormous impact on our family's experience.
She took the time to truly get to know my daughter, who has cancer and was hospitalized for nearly a week due to complications following surgery to remove her lymph nodes. From the very beginning, Diana always—and I truly mean always—had a positive, cheerful attitude. That positivity not only lifted my daughter's spirits, but also gave my wife and me comfort as we navigated one of the most difficult times in our lives.
Diana listened to all of us, but most importantly, she listened to my daughter. At first, she was scared and hesitant to be honest about her pain and what she needed. Diana patiently helped her open up by joking with her, sharing stories, and making her laugh. Those simple moments built trust. Before long, she felt comfortable talking openly about her pain and her needs because Diana had made the hospital feel just a little less scary for a five-year-old little girl.
She never made us feel rushed. Every question we asked was answered thoughtfully, and if she didn't know the answer, she found it and always came back to us. She never left us wondering. She stayed on top of every detail and cared for my daughter with the same attentiveness and compassion every parent hopes their child will receive.
One thing that especially stood out was Diana's communication. She always explained what she was doing and why. That simple habit gave both my daughter and her mom a tremendous sense of comfort and confidence throughout our hospital stay.
Diana even took the time to get to know our extended family members when they came to visit, making each of them feel welcomed and cared for. She understood that when a child is hospitalized, she isn't just caring for one patient—she is caring for an entire family.
Diana is a shining example of what a nurse should be. She embodies compassion, professionalism, kindness, and genuine human connection in every interaction. She makes it all seem effortless, which, to me, is a reflection of how deeply she truly cares.
If I could say just two things to Diana, they would be: "Never change the nurse and person you are today, and thank you from the bottom of our hearts."
