Diana Sandoval embodies compassion. Diana is always trying to view the health care experience from the lens of the patient. Diana has advocated for patient safety regularly. One of her departmental accomplishments was setting a safety standard for patient monitoring after receiving medication injections.
Recently Diana looked at the use of Xolair including the cost, administration, and experience for the patient. Diana was looking at the cost of the medication, the prep time, and the waste. She worked with others to find a better solution and in doing so found a medication cost reduction of approximately $13,300 for the use of the medication for one patient. Reducing costs in the big picture helps keep the overall cost of healthcare down for all.
For this one particular patient, Diana made the process of receiving the medication easier and there was less office time for the patient. Diana's commitment to compassionate patient-centered care for our pulmonology patients is an example of extraordinary professional nursing care. Diana became a union steward and is seeking further education both to advocate and support the patients she serves.
On a personal note, as the sister of a patient with cystic fibrosis who receives care in Kaiser Permanente, it gives me peace of mind to feel my family member will receive safe and compassionate nursing care thanks to the nursing leadership Diana models daily.
