My husband is a recovering leukemia stem cell transplant patient with a low immune system 165 days post-transplant. He was in Queen's for 10 days and then released and had been receiving antibiotic IV for staph infection, blood transfusion, and magnesium and potassium infusions at Queen's Infusion Center daily for a month. He started to have blackouts and fell 9 times, but doctors could not detect what was wrong with him even though he was seen by doctors and checked by nurses every week withmultiple office visits.
Diana noticed he had a slight fever and decided she would do a comprehensive exam during the 3 hours he was there. She took his VS frequently and was very attentive with his condition. She documented her findings on the computer. Diana told me she heard a noise in the lower lungs and found presence of low-grade fever suspected lung infection. He had a low oxygen saturation of 88 percent, which was a factor contributing to the blackouts. His BP lying down to standing was high-to-low. His heart rate was up. Diana recommended thatI take him to his oncologist right away because she suspected infection with a low-grade fever.
The oncologist office nurses checked his VS the next day and sent him to the ER. A week later he ended up in the cardiac ICU when infections in his lung quickly spread and he was very ill; he was not getting enough oxygen even when the oxygen mask was on.
Thanks to Diana, my husband was able to be diagnosed with the correct problem. Diana's dedication shows she truly cares for the welfare of her patients by using her keen nursing observations and skills. Diana exemplifies excellent nursing traits and skills and delivers the highest quality of care in her work. Diana has a very pleasant personality and smiles all the time. My husband and I will forever be grateful for her help.
