If you want to see the compassionate side of nursing, look to Diana.
Diana is an outstanding nurse. I have known Diana for almost 13 years and have worked with her for the entire span of my career at KSB. She is caring and committed to serving her patients. She has been an excellent resource with regard to breastfeeding Moms, immunizations especially for the VFC program, and knowledgeable on many topics for both the Mt. Morris Clinic and the Oregon Clinics. Diana currently works for two doctors at the Oregon Clinic.
One example that I can think of was a situation this past year in Mt. Morris. We had a patient who was having multiple issues with breastfeeding her newborn. The nurse in Mt. Morris contacted Diana. It was just before Diana was to be off for the day. Diana promptly called the mom and gave her advice for the night. She was off the next day and then contacted the mom again on her own time. Diana was out of town but stopped to see the mom and baby on her way back to town. She continued to contact Mom throughout the week to be sure that things were going smoothly for baby and mother.
Diana has attended the Breastfeeding Conference this year and continues with the breastfeeding initiative at the hospital, where she works on a part-time basis in Labor and Delivery. She is a breastfeeding advocate. A second example that comes to mind when I think of Diana's caring and compassion was a time when she had an elderly patient at the clinic in Oregon. The patient's husband had recently passed away, and her daughter was undergoing treatment for breast cancer and living in the suburbs. The patient needed to see a specialist in Rockford. Diana and the patient attempted to arrange a ride for her to get to Rockford for this much-needed appointment. After multiple attempts, Diana arranged the appointment for her patient on a Tuesday, which was Diana's day off. She took the patient to her appointment. She has also taken prescriptions on a regular basis and dropped them off at the local pharmacy for the patient who might not be able to get their medication otherwise. She has also, in the past, taken a patient's medication that came in the mail to the clinic to the patient's home.
Diana's previous office manager used to say that if you wanted to see the compassionate side of nursing, look to Diana. These are the reasons I believe that Diana is a true DAISY Nurse.
