She is very passionate about VA healthcare and does whatever is needed to provide the best possible care to our veterans.
Diane is a Navy Veteran and has been working as an RN in the surgical clinic for 5 years. She is always willing to go above and beyond for both veterans and staff. She is very passionate about VA healthcare and does whatever is needed to provide the best possible care to our veterans. I would like to nominate Diane for a DAISY Award on behalf of all the veterans she has cared for in multiple areas of the medical center, including HTEC, general surgery, head and neck, and ophthalmology. I have included 2 recent examples of the type of nurse that Diane is and how deserving she is of the DAISY Award. There was a Veteran in need of a consultation for chronic pain. The Veteran had completed the necessary radiology studies through a community provider; however, the report images were delayed in arriving to the VA. Due to transportation issues, the Veteran was delayed even further, which meant the Veteran's appointment would need to be rescheduled. Rather than cause a delay in care, Diane obtained the release of information and obtained the images from the community provider herself that morning. This ensured that the VA provider was able to review the images and that the Veteran's appointment was not delayed. A Veteran was seen for routine follow-up in the eye clinic. Diane was providing additional coverage there when she met this Veteran. The Veteran recognized Diane from the surgical clinic and stopped to say hello. He mentioned to Diane that he hadn't been feeling well for some time. Diane assessed him and discovered he had multiple falls. Some of the falls included head trauma. Diane reviewed the Veteran's medications and took his vital signs. She noted the Veteran's pulse to be weak and thready. Diane consulted with the team and called 911. The Veteran was taken to the ER and spent several weeks in the hospital. When the Veteran was released from the hospital and returned to the eye clinic for follow-up, he was happy to see Diane. He couldn't stop thanking her for getting him the help he needed. The Veteran said that meeting Diane at the eye clinic was "the best thing that could ever happen to him."
