Diane was right, it was more. His spleen had ruptured and he needed emergency surgery.
There are no words to describe the gratitude we have for Diane Carney. My husband arrived back to the ER with reoccurring fever and stomach pain, 3 days after initially being discharged for a splenic infarction. However, after a positive COVID test in the ER, all of his symptoms were automatically presumed to be associated with COVID. He was admitted to 5 South for dehydration. In the morning he started to have severe stomach pains. Due to his COVID+, I was unable to be by his side. Diane called me throughout the day and kept me in the loop about all that was happening with him. She also worked tirelessly to control his pain and reached out to anyone that would listen to get him the tests he needed as she knew that was more than COVID. Diane was right, it was more. His spleen had ruptured and he needed emergency surgery. Diane was by his side and held his hand through all the pre-surgery prep. She contacted me that night to make sure I was okay and that I understood what was happening. She also called me the next morning to give me an update on my husband's ICU status. We truly believe if it wasn't for Diane's diligence that day, he might not have made it through the night. This was a very scary experience for us, complicated by being kept apart due to COVID. Diane was the shining star we both needed to get us through. We are forever grateful to you Diane,
