After working 8 of her 12 hour scheduled shift on Friday evening of Memorial Day weekend, I was notified that there was a young patient who was extremely ill in the ICU and was in need of Rituxin infusion. Our hematology provider was making arrangements for the patient to go to another facility for a higher level of care. The only staff trained for Monoclonal infusions are Oncology and Infusion nurses. The patient was in need of transport to Rochester for further hematology intervention and testing which may have been delayed if Diane had not been so flexible and devoted. The other alternative was to wait for a couple of hours till a bed was secured in Rochester and omit the Rituxin infusion which our provider said was needed emergently. Diane graciously went outside her area to the ICU to administer this medication which is a 5-6 hour infusion. This is also a medication that carries a significant reaction. She did so without question. She was introduced to the ICU nurses, provided some education on the drug and administration to them as well as reassuring them of the intended treatment. She then went to introduce herself with compassionate reassurance to the patient and begin the medication administration. She never once questioned working over her scheduled shift but rather told me that this patient was in need of our services and she would be happy to do this. Diane always puts the patient's needs first. She ensures safe practices and policy is adhered to as she promotes the highest quality outcomes. She is an expert in her field and shares her knowledge and skills with others. She is devoted to our patients and dedicated to her career. We are extremely fortunate to have Diane on our team. Many thanks for all you do!!
