Diane has always been an integral part of me achieving my goals and is a pleasure to work with.
Diane Knapp has been our Director of Critical Care Department for over 5 years. She is responsible for the following units: SICU/NSCU, MICU, BCU, BCT, WOCN, and MERT. She has worked hard to help us grow as managers in these areas as well as herself. She has been working with our team to become self-sufficient and work at being proud of the team we have become.

Diane works with us to achieve a good work-life balance. She herself is working on this. She actually took a 10-day vacation recently. Because Diane can help the team see their potential, she asked V to be acting Director while she was away. Because Diane helped to instill confidence in V, V accepted, and she did a great job.

Diane promotes the image of nursing by setting a good example of herself to the managers and staff that supports compassion and caring for the care given at UMC. She works with us and is the driving force to support the Pathway to Excellence Designation and renewal. She is working hard to help the staff achieve Magnet Accreditation. She is very passionate in regard to helping to reduce falls, HAPIs, CAUTIS, and CLABSIs. She works tirelessly to help improve these in the critical care area. She is working on strengthening the MERT team to assist with IVs and PICU lines. If we come to her with new ideas to help improve the care at UMC, she helps us develop the project, provides guidance, and moves the project through the proper channels. The WOCN team was trying to think of ways to help the bedside staff have resources easily obtained. Diane encouraged them to work with IT and Danny Romero to build a WOCN web page. It is up and running, thanks to Diane’s encouragement.

Diane always has an open-door policy for anyone that is in her department. She helps to support Nursing administration and Hospital Administration by promoting the image, vision and goals of UMC. I feel that Diane works very hard to promote the nursing image at UMC.

As the director of critical care, Diane is always looking for ways to improve critical care units. Diane is constantly pushing her staff to better themselves and their practice. When issues arise, Diane is quick to respond. She is always available to her staff. She makes sure they are doing well not only at work, but in their personal lives also. Diane has always been an integral part of me achieving my goals and is a pleasure to work with.
