Diane Liccardo 2, BSN, RN

As the Educator of 7 Dean, I get to interact with all of the unit’s nurses. I have observed Diane in her role as a staff nurse, charge nurse, preceptor, and co-chair of the unit-based team. As a staff nurse, her patients have told me that they feel safe and well cared for by Diane. She will stay to listen, hold a hand or provide extra emotional support when needed. I have been present on numerous occasions when families have purchased a meal for the entire unit as a thank you to her for the excellent care that she has provided.

In addition to advocating for her patients on a daily basis, she also advocates for her unit and her orientees. I have had Diane reach out to me to suggest new ways of doing things as when a transition to a new process has a few “kinks” to be worked out. Diane provides support to the new staff, welcoming them with open arms and taking them under her wing. She has the patience of a saint. If one way of teaching a new nurse how to do something does not work she will change the way that she is teaching it. On numerous occasions, Diane has missed breaks, and lunches and gone home late to attend to the needs of her patients or orientees. Diane has been a nurse for many years. As a result, she has experience and wisdom that cannot be taught in school. She is kind and compassionate to her patients and co-workers. She truly is an “Englewood Magnet Nurse”.
