Long before coronavirus pandemic, we knew that Diane was an extraordinary leader. The pandemic crisis, however, set the stage for her innate leadership abilities to be showcased in an extraordinary way.
The evolving frenzy caused by the unprecedented spread of the virus called for someone to step up, take command of the troops, and to organize a plan of response.
Diane answered the call in a big way! She has spent countless hours overseeing the operations of the Incident Command Center, chairing the COVID-19 Task Force, serving the St. Louis Metropolitan Pandemic Task Force, and generally directing all aspects of operations during this incredibly difficult time.
While these responsibilities alone are truly worthy of leadership recognition, they are not the only reason that we nominate Diane. The DAISY Nurse Leader Award recognizes nursing leaders who demonstrate a commitment to compassionate care, role model respectful and ethical behaviors, are trusted colleagues, and are willing to go the extra mile. Without a doubt, Diane exhibits all of these characteristics.
During the last six weeks of the COVID-19 Task Force, Diane has been careful to pepper each meeting with positive and encouraging updates. She assures that the team is well informed and armed with the right resources. She is able to summarize a plethora of data to make it meaningful and to prepare impactful next steps. She understands that this is a team sport and is always careful to say Thank You and to recognize the efforts of others.
Diane has overseen our DAISY Award Program for many years and is the recognized champion of celebrating the tremendous efforts of compassionate and dedicated nurses throughout our network of care. We feel that it is Diane's turn. So, on behalf of the entire senior team, we are honored to recognize Diane Ray as a DAISY Nurse Leader!
