Diane can educate her peers and even patients in a way that makes it easy for them to understand. She possesses a tremendous amount of patience.
Diane started her career on the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in October of 2018. Diane came to our unit with oncology experience. At her previous job, Diane was very involved beyond patient care, she was an active participant on committees and she worked on a project aimed at improving the new nurse orientation process. In addition to working full-time, Diane is also currently enrolled in a DNP-FNP Program. Developing professionally has always remained important to Diane, even with her busy schedule. This past year she was recognized for passing the Blood and Marrow Transplant Nursing Certification offered by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC). Her success with this certification exam has signified that she is dedicated to providing high-quality patient care to our vulnerable patient population. Since passing her certification, Diane has promoted certification among her peers.

When Diane started on our unit, she continued her momentum of being involved. Diane is very engaged and involved in unit and hospital committees and project work. This past year Diane became involved with our unit’s Nursing Professional Governance, and she was named our Unit Council Leader. In this role, Diane attends regular hospital meetings, hosts unit-based monthly meetings, and actively works on unit-based projects that aim to improve nurse-sensitive indicators and make improvements for the unit's staff.

Most notably, this year, Diane has planned multiple team spirit weeks that aimed to bring the team together and add a little joy to work during a stressful time. Diane decorated the unit and planned multiple experiences/ activities for the team. Diane included all of the unit’s staff in these activities- including the nurses, ancillary members, pharmacy, NPs, and Hospitalists. All of the staff members have benefited from her creativity/planning. Building and expanding on team morale has always been important, but during the pandemic, it has been seen as even more critical to hold our team together while providing safe and high-quality patient care.

Diane has also taken on other leadership roles. Diane has completed the nursing preceptor course and has been the primary preceptor for multiple new staff nurses. She can educate her peers and even patients in a way that makes it easy for them to understand. She possesses a tremendous amount of patience and can work with individuals who have various degrees of educational backgrounds and abilities. Diane also functions as the unit’s charge RN when assigned. Diane has strong critical thinking skills and can handle any problem. Diane also effectively communicates and escalates issues appropriately. Additionally, she will provide service recovery when appropriate. Diane leads by example and positively impacts all individuals she works with.
