When I had a thought about something from a previous experience and expressed it to Diego, he really listened to me. We discussed things and he helped work out issues so my concerns were dealt with.
I had my 3rd brain surgery at Overlook in Jan 2020. Having been my 3rd experience, I knew a lot of what to expect. I knew the steps we'd take to getting me recovered and I knew that I would receive the most outstanding care possible.
The entire team in post-op and Neurocritical care is exceptional. All the nursing staff was wonderful, but I was extra lucky to get Diego Ferrari as my nurse for several days. Diego is a consummate professional and it was evident in everything he did. Not only did he take great care of me, but he did it in an extraordinary way. He is kind, compassionate, cheerful, and attentive. I was lucky to have my family visit and help with me and Diego was polite and kind to them as well.
One thing that struck me about Diego is that he really listened to and observed me. Since this was not my first brain surgery, I knew a lot about how medications affected me and what I would and wouldn't be able to do. When I had a thought about something from a previous experience and expressed it to Diego, he really listened to me. We discussed things and he helped work out issues so my concerns were dealt with. Not only did he listen to me but he would always review the issues and what I was currently able to do when the staff change occurred so the transitions were seamless. I feel like he took the time to get to know me, not just another craniotomy. He was attentive and customized my care to what would work for and help me.
Diego communicated with me frequently as to what testing I might be headed to and who would be in and out for evaluations. He made sure I safely got up to move when ready and I am sure that getting out of bed helped make me strong enough to go home just 2 days after surgery. Amazing! He thoroughly reviewed all my discharge info and medication guides which made me feel confident. I left the hospital feeling strong and got home to be able to resume a lot of my normal activities. Each day I feel stronger and more me. I don't know if I would have recovered so quickly had I not had Diego's support and encouragement.
Note: This is Diego's 2nd DAISY Award!
