My four-year-old, W, and I ended up in the ER last night due to some scary belly pain. Because of family history, this necessitated many tests and pokes and prods. W was in pain and felt awful, but Dillon was so friendly and was wonderful at explaining to W what he would be doing next. Even getting an IV was so much less awful than anticipated. Dillon helped W feel safe and like he was on an adventure and he made me feel heard and informed. W left the hospital feeling much better and crowing about 'drinking through his arm' and carrying his pee in a cup. Definitely an adventure.
