Dixie leads by example. Her passion for the patients she serves, and her coworkers are evident in all that she does. She is highly skilled, extremely knowledgeable, and compassionate about the care she provides for her patients and the team she helps lead. Her enthusiasm and energy are contagious. She holds herself to the highest level of standards in delivering the best possible patient care and challenges those she works with to do the same. Dixie makes herself readily available to all units and locations as needed providing support, encouragement, and education as needed. She always manages to find the time to lend an empathetic ear when staff need to share ideas and vent. Despite her hectic schedule she remains dedicated to her calling as a nurse. I have witnessed Dixie engaging with agitated, psychotic, and resistant patients in a safe and compassionate manner, always treating them with dignity and respect. She meets them “where they are” showing them acceptance and trust to help them make the best choice possible. Dixie was instrumental in helping develop, implement, and educate the Treatment Plan system-wide process for behavioral health. Because of her clinical expertise and commitment to advancing nursing and the Behavioral Health Division she is often asked to participate in multidisciplinary improvement processes. She has also participated in community awareness and education projects.
