The best teachers teach by example and Dolores demonstrates what it is to always put the patients first.
Dolores Diaz started off as a Medical Assistant within our organization. Many leaders saw how she exemplified our values and how she cared for patients with such kindness as if they were her own family members. Dolores was encouraged to continue her education so that she could have more involvement with her patients' care and she did just that! Dolores received her Bachelors in Nursing and a couple of years ago completed her Master's in Nurse Executive Leadership. Dolores is very humble, and I don't think she truly realizes what an inspiration she is to others.
When speaking with Dolores's nursing staff you can tell that they have a great amount of respect and admiration for her. The best teachers teach by example and she demonstrates what it is to always put the patients first. She explains to her team that whatever difficulties and problems they are having are minuscule in comparison to those we serve. Dolores attempts to put things in perspective so that her team understands the importance of what they are being asked to do.
A supervisor must be strong and not allow people to walk all over them, but they must also have a heart. Dolores demonstrates this by hearing out her team's complaints and addressing them individually with genuine concern. Dolores does her best to produce an amicable solution. A supervisor must also know how it feels to get down in the trenches with you so they know exactly what tasks they are asking you to do. Dolores is always willing to step in and cover when her team and their patients need her.
Dolores is the heartbeat of the HOMES nursing department! She tells the truth and is loyal. She will praise her team for their dedication and she will also call them out when they are out of line. Dolores is an extraordinary leader who stands up for her nurses and I'm sure most of us will agree that there is nothing like having a boss that has your back.
