Known for her genuine kindness and warm voice, Dolores Sapiro-Swanson was chosen as a DAISY Honoree after a veteran's spouse commended Dolores for her hard work in organizing the veteran's transfer from the San Francisco VA to the Sacramento VA, where his wishes were honored, and his family was assured he was receiving the best care possible during his last days. Because of her perseverance and follow-through, the VA was able to accommodate the veteran and his family and give him an end-of-life ceremony with an honor guard. In a voicemail from his wife, she explained that Dolores "made a huge difference in our lives. He was in a good place, was treated with dignity and respect, and was buried with honor."
