I understood the care I was receiving and felt more in control of a situation in which I originally felt I had lost control.
When I arrived at the emergency room after having a migraine headache that I could not get rid of, I was quickly called back to a room by my nurse, Doni. She was sympathetic to my pain, and although I was whiny, she cared for me so professionally and patiently. She whisked me into a room and set an atmosphere to ease my pain.
She had obviously seen this before and knew exactly what to do to make me comfortable without even having to ask - warm blanket, lights off, get the doc to order meds quickly, and check on me frequently to make sure I was comfortable despite a busy department. She took time to explain the medication, potential side effects, and how the drugs complemented each other and counteracted certain side effects.
I understood the care I was receiving and felt more in control of a situation in which I originally felt I had lost control. I rarely come to the emergency department, but this is by far my best experience ever, and I attribute it all to the care that Doni provided.
