My 83 year old husband G was discharged from Good Samaritan Hospital with pleur-x-drain that required further draining. When we were told that home health care was necessary, I requested Donna Ashe. We have had Donna's services before and were told that they would try to arrange for that to occur. We were so happy when Donna called and said she would be taking care of G. Donna showed up with her big smile, immediately putting us at ease. G has had dementia for many years. Donna is very compassionate to his needs; she understands what is entailed with a demented patient. She speaks to him directly, her body language puts him at ease and she is skilled.
Donna immediately put up an "oxygen in use" sign as we have had oxygen for years and the company that delivered the oxygen has never addressed signage. Donna comes 3 days a week, we have 8 children and 22 grandchildren. Therefore there are many people coming in and out. Donna adjusts and goes with the punches, educating family members who were in attendance about the care provided and patiently answering questions, even questions that had been answered already. Donna offered suggestions about home safety, increased protein input and activity.
Donna is an extraordinary Nurse. Her compassion towards me, G and our entire family was evident when G was switched to hospice. She is a remarkable person who should be recognized for her excellent Nursing skills and her ability to meet basic human needs. We think Donna is special.
