Donna Booe is an exceptional nurse and a valued asset to 7 West. She consistently demonstrates outstanding assessment skills, quickly recognizing subtle changes in a patient’s condition, addressing concerns promptly, and escalating care appropriately to ensure the best possible outcomes.
Donna actively shares her knowledge as a new nurse preceptor and serves as a trusted resource to staff in her role as charge nurse. Additionally, she plays an important role in unit-based shared governance, encouraging team participation in decision-making and fostering increased staff engagement.
Beyond her clinical expertise, Donna embodies the true spirit of nursing through her compassion and empathy. She provides expert care to even the most complex and challenging patients while building strong rapport with them and their families. Through active listening, genuine understanding, and kindness, she creates meaningful connections. Her dedication is frequently recognized, as many patients have expressed their gratitude through heartfelt thank-you cards.
One patient she cared for multiple times following a traumatic accident that resulted in significant facial injuries often spoke with Donna about her upcoming wedding. Months after discharge, the patient sent a heartfelt letter expressing gratitude for Donna’s excellent care, emotional support, and friendship, along with photos from her wedding.
In another instance, Donna cared for a long-term patient with severe lower extremity injuries who had undergone numerous surgeries and was experiencing depression. Recognizing the emotional toll, Donna obtained a provider’s order and arranged to take the patient outside on a beautiful day, despite the challenges associated with transport. Her determination and compassion made a meaningful difference, lifting the patient’s spirits and bringing a smile to her face. Staff widely recognized the positive impact of this thoughtful gesture.
