I told her all about my dad and she seemed genuinely interested. She told me to call as much as I wanted and truly made me feel as if she cared about my dad as a person, not just a patient.
Donna was my favorite nurse in this dept, although I believe she only cared for my dad once. Her impact left an impression I will never forget. My husband and I have been in the medical field for 30+ years. We live in IL so I mostly traveled alone to Hennepin. When I couldn't travel, I called Dad many times a day so he could hear my voice. He was declining quickly, and Donna was his last nurse on STNU3 before he was put on hospice. She asked me over the phone if I could tell her about my dad and who he was as a person. He was mostly unresponsive by this time. But it was clear to her that he had a good life and was in good shape and looked younger than his 78 years. She saw a picture in his room on the dry erase board, and I told her it was me, my husband, and our puppy. I told her all about my dad and she seemed genuinely interested. She told me to call as much as I wanted and truly made me feel as if she cared about my dad as a person, not just a patient. So important!
