I would like to nominate Donna for the DAISY Award. She was amazing the entire time she cared for my baby girl. I was not able to hold my baby for 16 days. She came into the PICU with brain swelling so I could not hold her and only minimal touching.
Donna was the most caring and compassionate nurse we had ever had. She would talk and sing to my daughter to help calm her. When Donna would talk to my daughter she would calm down because she had grown accustomed to Donna's voice. Donna was the one nurse that made me feel comfortable. We were so happy to receive the news that we could leave the PICU, but so sad we had to leave Donna, the greatest nurse ever. Donna had so much compassion and caring and that was exactly what we needed in a time like this.
One evening my daughter was supposed to have her breathing tube removed and Donna stayed over late to care for her. I think she knew I needed that extra support. I believe Donna made the difference in how quickly my baby got better and was able to move to the 2nd floor. I will always remember her kindness and how she interacted with my baby.
