Donna Dang LVN always goes above and beyond for patients. Recently, a patient came to see the primary care provider and Donna had to convince (plead with) the patient to stay to do a Diabetic eye exam. She called Optometry to get the patient booked the same day. She asked Optometry if she could put in drops to dilate the patient's eyes while in Family Medicine so he would be all ready for Optometry and they said yes. Then Donna personally walked the patient over to Optometry. The patient kept his Optometry visit that day, and saw Ophthalmology a few days later, where he was told he has right proliferative retinopathy with macular edema, and left moderate non proliferative retinopathy with macular edema and at high risk for blindness and needs to follow up regularly with them. The patient had a Scatter Pan retinal photocoagulation Laser; the right eye done and has another Ophthalmology visit. The patient reported that he can see fine now.
In addition, the patient's diabetes was way out of control and Donna also convinced the patient to work with the Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease Clinical Pharmacist. She direct booked him into the schedule. His most recent A1C was in control for his age.
Truly due to Donna's persistence in getting the Diabetic eye exam done that same day, and to get the patient to manage his diabetes, this patient was saved from blindness.
