Having completed my new graduate orientation in July, I have enjoyed being independent as well as receiving great support from my new NICU team. Donna Gilroutinely goes above and beyond to lend a helping hand. I will always remember one of the busiest nights experienced as a new graduate; I found myself overwhelmed and at the same time guided by this passionate and amazing nurse.
I truly look up to Donna and hope to acquire some of her outstanding work ethic … I believe it is bedside nurses like her that make outstanding nurse leaders. I am completely inspired by the great person she is. Donna deserves a DAISY Award because she strives for excellence in all that she does!
Colleagues described Donna similar to the assessment of her skills and personality made by this new graduate nurse. Donna is a nurse they can truly count on; she is considered a clinical expert who willingly assists others and shares wisdom acquired over many years of practice. Donna is recognized today as being an incredible mentor!
Each of us has experienced being new at something. There is fear of the unknown, uncertainty about what to do in unfamiliar situations and the overarching concern of making a mistake or losing control. We recognize Donna, a genuine mentor, worthy of the esteemed DAISY Award.
