August 2026 Honoree
Donna Hill, ASN, RN
My father was admitted to Gulf Coast Medical Center with unexplained neurological symptoms. For months, our family had watched him decline, and we knew something was wrong, but we struggled to get others to understand the severity of what we were seeing. We were frightened, overwhelmed, and unsure of how to navigate such a complicated medical situation.
Then we met Donna.
From the moment she cared for my father, Donna truly listened. She didn't dismiss our concerns or make us feel like we were overreacting. Instead, she treated us as partners in his care and advocated for him as fiercely as we were. When Donna noticed subtle but concerning changes in my dad's speech and facial features, she acted immediately. Without hesitation, she took command of the situation, initiated the appropriate emergency response, and ensured we didn't lose precious time. In a neurological emergency, minutes matter, and I truly believe her quick thinking and clinical judgment made a profound difference in my father's care. What made Donna extraordinary, however, was not just her skill; it was her compassion.
While coordinating a medical emergency, she still found the time to reassure my father that he was in good hands and to comfort my mother during one of the most terrifying moments our family has ever experienced. She brought calm to a situation that felt completely out of control.
Donna embodies everything a nurse should be: knowledgeable, observant, decisive, compassionate, and deeply committed to her patients. She didn't just care for my father; she cared for our entire family. We will never forget her ability to balance exceptional clinical expertise with genuine kindness.
Because of Donna, we felt heard. We felt supported. Most importantly, we knew my father had someone fighting for him when he needed it most. She truly deserves recognition through the DAISY Award, and our family will always be grateful for the difference she made in our lives.
