My mother was admitted to Baptist. They thought she was retaining fluid and near kidney failure, so they recommended dialysis.A few days later, she had dialysis and did not respond well. She was then immediately sent to ICU. Donna was an Asst. Charge Nurse and she was very attentive to my mother and her assigned nurse. She kept in constant contact with her doctor and made me aware of everything they were doing. They were constantly changing out meds. She stayed and worked hand-in-hand with her nurse to make sure everything was done correctly.I did not know that I was losing my mother at the time, but I am sure Donna knew what was happening. She and the nurse worked tirelessly all night long. My mother coded at least 3 times during the night and everyone was doing what they could. She had become septic and her bodycouldn't fight anymore.I feel that Donna went above her responsibility by making sure everything possible was being done and staying by the side of her nurse for support and advice in this crucial situation. It was well past their shift when my mother passed away. Donna did not leave us.She stayed to make sure she could help in any way she could, helping us make any arrangements and comforting us, and it was all because she cared. I was so grateful to her for her dedication to the care of my mother, especially long after her shift was over.My mother was too ill to know, but I was there and it made this traumatic experience a little easier to bear. I think Donna's work ethic and compassion is exemplary and what every patient would hope for.
