Donna spoke directly and compassionately to the patient and daughter.
Donna came into the patient's room twice while the patient was in crisis and close to death. She assessed the situation, organized the staff, and brought the patient back to consciousness and responsiveness before she left the situation. I witnessed her immediate assessment of the patient's condition and knew what to do despite the difficult situation the other team members were struggling to address. She spoke to the staff and family with confidence and respect. The staff appeared grateful for her interventions and appreciative of her collaborative help in each situation. She spoke directly and compassionately to the patient and daughter. if she had not been called in, I believe the patient would have died suddenly and without the time they will now have at home to die peacefully under hospice care. Because of her interventions, the patient will have time to enjoy their home, cats, and family. They may never recover to their baseline health before the hospitalization, but they will be able to die peacefully on their own terms. That is a gift Donna can be proud of.
