Not only did she make me feel safe and cared for, but she also made me feel brave and strong for standing up.
I came in very early in the morning, not long after midnight. I needed to be seen after an assault, so I was extremely nervous. At first, I just spoke on the phone with a SANE nurse, who had told me I had to wait until 9:30 a.m. to be seen. Afterwards, I felt the need to actually be seen that night due to my injuries. I rechecked back into the ER, and Donna was the nurse to come get me. She walked up to me in the waiting room and asked for me by name. She walked me to triage and talked to me about what happened. Not only was she kind, but she also reassured me the entire time I was scared of talking. She also never made me feel like I had to do anything. She also advocated for me to be seen earlier than 9:30 a.m., and informed me that my injuries may be worse than they seem as they were possible to progress. She allowed me to stay in the triage room and informed security of the situation until law enforcement showed up. She explained every step in the process amazingly, and made sure I knew what I was doing was the right choice. She continued to check on me, and stayed with me through all the statements, tests, medication, and listened to everything I had to say. Not only did she make me feel safe and cared for, but she also made me feel brave and strong for standing up. I truly do not know what I would have done without her! She was so soft spoken and just made sure I understood everything. I've never had someone be as compassionate as her, and I couldn't be more thankful!
