A 5-day old infant was admitted to the Pediatric department and needed an IV. No other nurses were available to successfully start this IV. Dori gladly came in unscheduled in the middle of the night and started the IV. She built a rapport with the parents and put them at ease by answering all of their questions. The parents of the patient were extremely happy to see her and thanked her generously as she left. If it weren't for Dori coming in, the baby might have had to have several unsuccessful IV starts delaying much-needed care.
