My many thanks to the Barnes family for sharing their experience with the VA nursing staff. I too can relate to similar encounters with not only the staff at the M1 facility in Long Beach, but I was especially blessed to fall under the care of Nurse Practitioner Dorianne Tillano. She addressed my physical injuries along with my mental health issues. The intensity of treatment was nothing short of amazing. It was extensive and Dorianne was with me every step of the way.
When I first arrived at the VA emergency department, I was heavily intoxicated with a head injury and most of all suicidal. Dorianne resolved my head injuries but most of all she restored my confidence to deal with life on life terms. I am now in recovery and an active member of Alcohol Anonymous. I am happy to say my spirit and will to do the right things to enjoy my life one day at a time. I do not believe this would be possible without the strong hand Dorianne gave to me. To leave this institution without paying my gratitude would be an injustice.
I am very grateful for the kindness and her sense of wellbeing for me while undergoing the treatments she provided to me. She will be in my prayers and thoughts as I continue to move forward.
