Doris Heath was nominated as this month's Daisy Award honoree by several patients. Some of those comments are as follows: 1) I think Doris Heath is the perfect candidate for the DAISY Award. She is very personable, remembered my family well, and made me feel as if she cared for my Mother personally, not just because she was her nurse. Doris answered all of our questions, describing in detail everything that was asked. We recognized she was respected by her colleagues and was always eager to share information about my Mother's care with us. I was very happy with my Mother's stay at the hospital because of Doris's passion for her career. 2) Doris was really nice and on top of her job. She was always very informative about what was going on with me. She was understanding and empathetic. I think she should win this award because she was such an energetic people oriented person. She exudes everything a nurse should be. 3) Doris really set the tone the first moment she walked in the room to greet me. Her knowledge and way she communicated made me and my family feel important. She never said "No" to me but always gave me another alternative that worked out. We never felt like she was too busy to check on us. If she said she would do something, she always followed through. I just want to say Thank you and that RCRMC is very lucky to have Doris and one of their nurses. 4) Doris is my choice for the Daisy Award for the following reasons: a. Presence; makes me and my family feel welcome and not intruding on her schedule b. Pride; is neat, professional, friendly and does little things like fluffing my pillow, cleaning up, being sure about my medications. c. Partner; asks how I am feeling and asks my Mother about how to make me feel better. d. Passion; I sense that she really cares about me and makes me feel like she is my friend, not just a nurse. I just feel better when she comes to see me.
