Doris is a true asset to our team. She is caring, patient, and very knowledgeable. Doris has been a part of our team in the ICU since Avon Hospital has opened. She has been a wonderful resource, not only to the nurses in the ICU, but nurses all over the hospital. She is very supportive and responsive, and she is often educating staff and growing our team's knowledge to provide better patient care. One of Doris' greatest qualities is her compassion towards our patients and their family members. She is kind and gentle, but honest when having conversations about goals of care and patient prognosis. She is always happy to visit with the patients and discuss treatment plans and listen to their feelings. One specific example of Doris going above and beyond for a patient occurred recently in the ICU. One of our patients was very critically ill and was decompensating quickly. The patient's husband was admitted to Medina Hospital and was not able to come see his wife. Doris spoke with the patient's husband over the phone and discussed how critically ill his wife was, explaining that she may not survive much longer. Doris then set up patient transfer for the patient's husband to come to Avon Hospital so he could be with his wife. Doris coordinated with the Medina NOM and one of our hospitalists for his transfer. She then spoke to the husband several more times while waiting for transport in order to keep him up to date on his wife's status. The patient's husband was then transferred to Avon Hospital and was brought to his wife's bedside, allowing him to spend her final moments at her side. This is just one example of Doris' kindness and compassion for the people we care for. I appreciate all that she does for us and our patients.
