During my husband's stay, I was very concerned that his symptoms were being assessed too quickly, without fully considering his overall history and what we were observing in the moment. In that stressful moment, Doris Williams made a significant difference by truly listening to both of us and taking our concerns seriously. Doris did not dismiss what we were saying. Instead, she gave us their undivided attention, asked us clarifying questions, and made sure they understood everything we were trying to communicate.

Doris treated my husband with such dignity and acknowledged our concerns. She helped us feel heard during a very fast-paced and overwhelming situation. This nurse did not assume anything or judge us. Instead, they took their time to ensure our voices were included in my husband's care. Doris also acted as a strong advocate for my husband. She respectfully communicated our concerns to his medical team and encouraged a more thorough review before decisions were made. Watching this nurse speak up on my husband's behalf while still maintaining professionalism and respect gave me a sense of reassurance and trust in his care.

Doris was even able to get some notes written in my husband's chart removed at our request. Doris had compassion, was attentive, and was willing to advocate for us. All of which made a lasting impact on me. In a moment when I felt anxious and uncertain, this nurse helped me feel that my husband was truly being cared for as a whole person, not just a set of symptoms.
