I wanted to share with you what a great caring story that happened this weekend in the community and our hospital.
While having dinner at Olive Garden with her husband, Dorothea Thompson heard that another customer was having respiratory distress. Dorothea left her table and went to help the family as they thought they should call 911. The customer eventually lost consciousness and lost her pulse. Dorothea started CPR and took care of her until EMS arrived.
EMS took the patient to Winter Haven Hospital where resuscitation efforts continued. The family was very distraught as the patient's husband is still in the hospital after a major surgery. The family did not even know where our hospital was located so Dorothea left Olive Garden to assist them in getting to the hospital. The patient required intubation and a chest tube. The patient is now in MICU, and has made significant improvements.
The family was so grateful for all that Dorothea did, and they called her an "Angel". They continue to talk about Dorothea each day and how she saved their mother's life.
