Dorothy recently cared for a resident of the Health Care Center. As she was caring for him one morning she noticed something was wrong. She notified the physician and he ordered her to monitor the patient. She took the time to sit with him and talk with him at length. She asked him if he was in pain and he replied no. However, Dorothy said even though his vital signs were normal, she just knew he was not himself. She again notified the physician and was insistent that he even though he was not complaining of pain like he usually did she knew something wasn't right. She advocated that the resident be sent out to the ER to get evaluated and treated appropriately. She went above and beyond to make sure the resident was sent to the ER in a timely manner. The resident did have an MI and Dorothy was able to comfort the family. The resident has returned to the Health Care Center.
Dorothy showed and demonstrated compassionate care and was able to save this patient's life.
