Dorothy Tenenbaum is the lead Vascular Access Nurse at Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center. She interacts with many departments assisting staff in determining the best possible vascular access for the patients. She is an advocate for the patient. She is proactive in meeting the needs of the patients making herself available to the nursing staff when they have a patient requiring advanced vascular access or are just a very difficult "stick." She works collaboratively with the nursing staff and physicians in assessing the patients and getting orders for appropriate line placements.
Dorothy makes it her mission to educate the staff on early patient identification for the placement of an appropriate line that will be most beneficial to the patient and will cause the least amount of pain and complications to the patients. She is truly an advocate for patient safety and comfort. She is well respected by doctors and nurses, but her focus is always on what is best for the patient.
The entire hospital knows Dorothy because she is very skilled, dependable, and always available to help. Her communication style is that of confidence and not arrogance. She is always collaborative with the staff in coordinating patient care and takes her time in making patients and families feel supported and cared for. Her calming ways put patients at ease. Dorothy always has a smile on her face, is welcoming to staff who need her assistance, and is an all-around great person!
