My patient spoke only Chinese. The patient did not want a fuss made about him, but he was very, very anxious. Dorothy, who speaks Chinese and was not in my room, volunteered to come in and speak to him in Chinese and held his hand under the OR drape for the entire case. She made my patient feel so comforted. She showed compassion and kindness in a patient's time of need.
